Celcom Axiata (Celcom) will be providing free SIM cards to Malaysians who are required to undergo the 14-day mandatory quarantine at the respective quarantine centres upon returning from abroad.
Celcom Axiata chief executive officer Idham Nawawi said they may request for a free SIM pack from the authorities and self-register their SIM via the Celcom Life application.
“We are working closely with the authorities to ensure everyone remains connected during these challenging times,” he said in a statement.
The prepaid packs are preloaded with 1GB of data and 10GB access to Facebook, Instagram and Games Walla, said Idham.
He added that users could also enjoy other special relief initiatives from Celcom during the Movement Control Order, including free 1GB daily internet, free WhatsApp and unlimited access to the Ministry of Health's website and services.
“With the nation’s interest and wellbeing close to our heart, Celcom is reaching out as much as possible with the best solutions to help cushion the economic and social impact on our customers, vendors, partners and others within the ecosystem.
“Customers can sign up for Aspirasi C-Protect, an affordable insurance plan at only RM1 that includes a coverage of up to RM20,000 and daily financial assistance for COVID-19 cases via the Celcom Life App,” he said.
He added that Axiata will also be extending its support by leveraging its expertise, innovative digital products and services, as well as business network.
Idham said Celcom and Axiata Group Bhd have established a RM150 million micro-financing initiative, Axiata COVID-19 Assistance Programme to help micro-small and medium enterprises facing cash-flow difficulties.
He added that Celcom has also made the necessary arrangements to strengthen its network capabilities to ensure that customers can remain connected with their loved ones and perform their jobs remotely when working from home.
