China Mobile and Ubitus, a global cloud gaming technology provider, have launched a 5G cloud gaming service.

The new service called UGAME is now available to China Mobile customers on mobile and UTV devices.

"Ubitus is delighted to collaborate with CMHK for 5G cloud gaming by using our industry-leading technologies,” said Wesley Kuo, CEO of Ubitus.

“Bringing new business model, technological strengths and global connections in the gaming industry meet with CMHK leading position in Hong Kong, we expect consumers will enjoy the next level cloud gaming and pioneer 5G services,"

The new offering is being delivered through China Mobile’s 5G Service Plan which launches on the 1st of April. Leveraging the company’s 5G infrastructure users have access to almost a hundred 5G cloud games that doesn’t require the download or installation of games, and no capacity limit associated with hardware equipment and devices.

In addition, the first floor of the company’s Central flagship store will be transformed into a 5G cloud gaming e-sports UGAME Experience Zone, where the public will get the chance to try this new and exciting form of 5G entertainment first-hand.

The news forms part of China Telecoms wider 5G network services launch.

“Changes in the usage habits of the public and the widespread application of the Internet of Things (IoT) by corporate have increased the demand for uploading data. Therefore, 5G networks must not only have low-latency and high download speed transmission characteristics, but also fast upload speeds,” said Sean Lee, director and chief executive officer of China Mobile Hong Kong.

“Today, our speed test shows that CMHK's 5G network has a latency of less than 10ms, a download speed exceeding 1Gbps, and an upload speed of over 130Mbps, which served as solid evidence to demonstrate that CMHK's 5G network can better meet customer needs.”
