Jordan manages to build platform for distance learning in less than a week

The Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Muthanna Gharaibeh has stated that the Kingdom was able to build a digital platform for distance learning within less than a week.

During a joint press briefing with the Minister of Education, Tayseer Noami and the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh, Gharaibeh said Jordan's human resources, with help of startups in the communications and information technology sector, created a simple and user-friendly platform.

He said around 70,000 students have started using the platform, voicing hope that it will be a "global model."

He commended the telecom companies that enabled students to browse the platform free of charge from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm, pointing out that the government cooperated with these companies by providing additional frequencies to expand the service and increase its speed during the current circumstances.

The internet infrastructure is a global challenge, Gharaibeh underlined, pointing to news of reduced YouTube speeds in Europe to address these issues. He said the Kingdom's natural resources are limited, underscoring that human resources are vital.

Gharaibeh stressed that education is essential, calling for prioritizing educational purposes in terms of internet use.
