Expresso switches on 4G network in Senegal

Senegalese operator Expresso Telecom has switched on its 4G network and will begin providing commercial services on 31st March.

Expresso’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer Fatou Sow Kane also confirmed that the operator will upgrade its 3G network in order to extend its coverage from 45% to 70% of the population, as well as boost data speeds.

Senegal’s third largest operator by subscribers, Expresso is a unit of the UAE’s Expresso Telecom Group Limited, which is in turn owned by Sudan’s Sudatel Telecom Group (STG). The operator is looking to catch up on its main rivals in the market, Orange and Free (formerly Tigo). These larger operators both offer LTE-A and, in Orange’s case, 4G services already.
