Libya's LPTIC reaches deal with Ericsson on network development and training

The state-run Libyan Post and Telecommunications Information Technology Company (LPTIC), which owns mobile operators Al-Madar and Libyana and the ISP Libya Telecoms and Technology (LTT), has signed an agreement with Ericsson. The Herald reported that they will develop an integrated plan of action for the maintenance and development of the networks and infrastructure of the companies. A large part of the infrastructure has been seriously damaged as a result of Libya’s wars since the 2011 revolt that overthrew the Qaddafi regime.

LPTIC said that the technical support that Ericsson will provide was discussed during a meeting with the company. Projects include expanding and developing the Al-Madar network and preparing for the 5G network scheme launched by the company in October 2019.

They have also discussed development of the Network Operating Centre (NOC) project for both the International Telecom Company, the Jeel Aljadeed company and other projects that will contribute to improving the performance of communication and internet services in the country.

A training programme for top Libyan university graduates was approved in order to transfer knowledge and enhance their capabilities and skills at various Ericsson centres around the world, to ensure that they are prepared for entry into Libya’s labour market with its various telecoms companies.
