Vodafone Portugal and NOS announced that they have signed a Letter of Intent in relation to a potential nationwide partnership for mobile network sharing, thus ensuring increased efficiency and speed on the coverage of the country.
The aim is to promote a sustainable investment model, which allows for a faster and more efficient deployment of mobile networks.
With this agreement, both Vodafone Portugal and NOS expect to deliver significant benefits to its clients whilst improving network coverage and quality of service countrywide.
‘This partnership will deliver significant benefits to our respective residential and business customers, increasing trust in the services we provide and strengthening competition in the telecoms market, therefore contributing decisively to the development of the Gigabit Society in Portugal, says Mário Vaz, Vodafone Portugal CEO.
The agreement will continue Vodafone’s strategy of sharing infrastructure rollout in Portugal, and extends the scope and perimeter of the existing partnership agreed with NOS in 2017. The underlying principles we will use to define this second stage of the partnership are: the easiness of deployment of networks, economic efficiency, maintaining strategic independence and the quality of the services provided, so that we can increase Portugal’s competitiveness in this digital world.’, emphasizes Mário Vaz.
Vodafone Portugal and NOS will continue to operate and buy their own spectrum and will retain strategic control of their networks, so that they can continue to provide differentiated services to customers on an independent basis.
Vodafone Portugal and NOS will start a period of exclusive negotiations, which are expected to be concluded and formalized in agreements by the end of June 2020.
This builds on the two companies successful existing partnership, which was signed in September 2017.
