In 2016, Australian firm TPG Telecom won the bid to become Singapore’s fourth telco.
Then in December last year, TPG announced that it will offer free mobile service for a year to the first 20,000 users who register their interest.
Due to such positive interest, TPG has relaunched the free one-year trial in March, which is still ongoing.
Today, it is reported that TPG has extended its free trial for 300,000 subscribers. With that, its 4G commercial launch will be pushed back to some time next year.
Previously, TPG is expected to commercially launch this month as its one-year trial for its first batch of customers was slated to end on December 20.
However, TPG wants to smooth out all coverage and performance issues on its 4G network first.
Its country general manager Richard Tan said that the trial will continue to help “validate the quality and coverage of (its) network”.
“We are deeply committed to bringing innovation to the market and plan to launch commercially in 2020.”
Meanwhile, users who are keen in subscribing to TPG’s mobile services can still register their interest here.
As part of the trial, TPG subscribers will get to enjoy a free SIM-only mobile plan with unlimited data and unlimited local calls. Do note that the trial may be withdrawn at any time.
However, TPG assures that it will notify customers of their monthly charge at least two months before the end of their free trial.
