Austrian operator A1 said that it has expanded its fibre network in over 700 municipalities over the past 12 months. The company improved broadband connections for 600,000 households, while more than 200,000 households were connected to fibre.
The households had access to fast broadband connections and new digital services such as Smart Home and A1 TV, the company’s digital TV offering. In total, A1 has connected over 2 million premises so far to its fibre network.
In 2019, A1 expanded its infrastructure by adding 7,000 kilometers of fibre to reach a total of 54,000 kilometers nationwide. It invests EUR 450 million per year to improve its digital infrastructure and to supply high-speed broadband internet. More than 6,000 mobile sites are connected to the fibre network. This creates the prerequisite to supply mobile broadband internet and 5G.
