Play to launch 5G in Tri-City area on 07 January

Polish mobile operator P4, trading under the Play brand, plans to launch its 5G network in the Tri-City conurbation of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot on 07 January, reports Telepolis.pl. Play currently covers 47 percent of Poland's population with its 5G-ready transmitters

Play had already announced plans to start 5G services in the city of Gdynia, which it will do on a trial basis from more than 100 base stations.

The 5G network will use the 2,100 MHz band, which the operator is already using. Huawei systems will be used, with end-customers offered Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 routers.

Play runs around 250 base stations using the 2,100 MHz band for UMTS/LTE services in Gdynia and in the neighbouring cities of Gdansk and Sopot.

Regulator UKE gave Play permission on 18 November to test its 5G network until 01 November 2020. The permit is for the 2,100 MHz band, FDD technology and the use of up to 15 MHz bandwidth.
