Pay-TV operator Sky Italia has agreed another wholesale deal ahead of its forthcoming launch of fixed broadband services.
Alongside the fibre-optic networks of Open Fiber (under a deal which had already been announced), Il Sole 24 Ore now reports that Sky will utilise infrastructure belonging to local ISP Fastweb.
Sky will gain access to Fastweb’s own fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks, some of which cover areas not yet reached by Open Fiber, while it can also utilise slower fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) technology as well as fixed-wireless equipment. Sky is expected to join the already competitive Italian broadband market in the first quarter of 2020.
