Movistar completes fiber migration in Copiapo

Movistar Chile has migrated its fixed line network in Copiapo, the capital of Atacama region, from copper to fiber technology.

According to the full-service provider, it has installed 440km of fibre to connect 55,000 homes, 50 educational establishments and around 800 companies and SMEs, boosting download speeds from peaks of 8Mbps to 50Mbps and above.

Movistar claims the city is the first regional capital in the north of the country to complete the transition, although Vallenar – also in Atacama region – has similarly been upgraded to 100% fibre. Nationwide, Movistar says it has installed over 50,000km of fibre.
