AT&T launches Believe Albuquerque initiative

AT&T is committed to helping build a better tomorrow for Albuquerque’s youth. We’re doing that through Believe Albuquerque℠, a new initiative focused on their safety and success.

Albuquerque’s young people face many challenges that can impede them from reaching their full potential, including high crime rates, low graduation rates and homelessness. With Believe Albuquerque, AT&T is bringing together our resources and employees to help create change by focusing on three key pillars: education, homelessness and behavioral health.

“Young people are Albuquerque’s most valuable and promising asset. They deserve to be safe and have the opportunities they need to succeed,” said Terri Nikole Baca, president of AT&T New Mexico. “By coming together as a company and community to focus on a common goal, we hope we can make a meaningful difference for them.”

“We’re all in this together. It takes businesses teaming up with the community to face serious issues head on,” said Tim Keller, Mayor of Albuquerque. “We appreciate AT&T stepping up with funding for our service providers to help improve the well-being of our city’s young people. This is the spirit of One Albuquerque.”

AT&T is teaming up with local organizations dedicated to erasing challenges facing Albuquerque’s youth and who have a proven track record of making a difference. AT&T is providing financial support to help expand their efforts, as well as engaging employees to volunteer their time and expertise.

AT&T is investing an initial $136,000 in contributions to local nonprofit organizations to help fund and expand their youth focused programs. Contributions include:

  • $30,000 to New Day Youth & Family Services
  • $30,000 to All Faiths Children's Advocacy Center
  • $26,000 to Mission: Graduate
  • $25,000 to CLNkids
  • $20,000 to PB&J Family Services
  • $5,000 to Albuquerque Museum Foundation

We’re kicking off Believe Albuquerque with a company volunteer event at New Day Youth & Family Services today to assist in their mission to provide youth ages 16-22 a safe place to stay while helping them develop key life skills. To create a lasting impact, Believe Albuquerque will continue to connect AT&T employees to volunteer opportunities with local nonprofits on an ongoing basis.

“New Day is thrilled to be a part of AT&T’s Believe Albuquerque initiative,” said Steve Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of New Day Youth and Family Services. “This is an opportunity to create a shared community culture about the value and potential of these young people and work to capitalize on that. Together, we can all help young people in our community overcome challenges and succeed.”

Today we also announced a way the community can get involved. Through Dec. 31, we will be collecting new children’s pajamas at all AT&T locations in Albuquerque during regular business hours. New pajamas were identified as a need for children served by both CLNkids and PB&J Family Services, and those collected will be donated to the two organizations.

Believe Albuquerque℠, is an extension of AT&T Believes℠, a larger company-wide initiative which aims to create positive change in local communities.
