Finnish mobile network operator (MNO) Elisa has announced the expansion of its 5G network footprint to the city/municipality of Vantaa, which forms part of the inner core of the Finnish Capital Region along with Helsinki, Espoo, and Kauniainen, while also confirming that its fixed-wireless broadband offering – ‘5G Kotinetti’ – is now available there. Having previously been made offered only in Turku, 5G Kotinetti is a fixed-wireless broadband service which requires the installation of an external router.
As a result of the 5G network expansion, the MNO now claims to offer its next generation mobile broadband connectivity in a total of six locations, those being: Helsinki, Jyvaskyla, Lahti, Tampere, Turku and Vantaa. Looking ahead, the cellco has said it aims to reach ‘several’ additional cities with the network before the end of this year.
