Airtel Africa has revealed that it recently acquired additional spectrum in three of its markets, securing 20MHz of frequencies in the 2600MHz band in Nigeria, as well as 5MHz in the 1800MHz range in Chad and 10MHz of 2100MHz spectrum in Malawi. Airtel highlighted that in the six-month period ended 30 September 2019 it launched 4G services in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger, and added that it is ready to switch on LTE in Tanzania, thereby making 4G services available across all of its 14 markets.
Airtel Africa reported revenue of USD844 million in the quarter ended 30 September 2019, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year, while underlying EBITDA rose 12.2% year-on-year to USD372 million and net profit grew by 58.9% to USD90 million. Furthermore, the group disclosed that it crossed the 100 million subscriber milestone in July.
