Egypt hosts World Radiocommunication Conference in Sharm El Sheikh

Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh will host the 38th World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), to be held for the first time in 20 years outside the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters in Geneva.

The event will run from 28 October to 22 November.

More than 3,500 participants from 140 countries, and more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers from around the world, will participate in the conference, in addition to more than 50 companies and international organisations working in the field of telecommunications.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is expected to participate in the official opening of the conference on 28 October 2019.

At least 1,000 specialised research papers will be discussed at the conference.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Telecom Egypt in cooperation with South Sinai Governorate.

World Radiocommunication Conferences are held every three to four years. The WRC reviews and sometimes revises radio regulations, the international treaty governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum, and the geostationary-satellite and non-geostationary-satellite orbits. Revisions are made on the basis of an agenda determined by the ITU council, which takes into account recommendations made by previous WRC events.
