Australian operator Telstra, in partnership with geospatial company Fugro, has developed a Remote Operations Centre. Based in Perth at our International Telecommunications Centre, the facility is designed to support Fugro’s maritime operations off the coast of Western Australia via satellites and automation. Using its satellite network, Telstra reports it is working with skilled Fugro engineers to operate a fleet of maritime submersible robots. These drones beam HD video to remote operators in Perth from a depth of up to 4,000 metres below the surface of the ocean.
Paired with the range of Telstra satellite network, Fugro could deploy this remote drone capability to anywhere on Earth, Telstra also said. These robots will operate up to 4,000 metres below the surface of the ocean, with duties including the remote inspection, repair and maintenance of Fugro infrastructure.
Telstra reports it is already investigating future opportunities for its Remote Operations Centre in the wider market.
