Mocambique Telecom to launch 4G by end November

State operator Mozambique Telecom (Tmcel) will launch 4G services by the end of November and upgrade the national network with support from China, it said today in a statement.

"Tmcel will introduce, by the end of November next year, 4G technology as part of the project to modernize and upgrade its entire transmission network," says the company.

Following the introduction of 4G in and around the capital, "the second phase of the project will be launched with a view to its expansion into the entire national territory, with funding already secured from the Chinese government," the statement said, citing the minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita.

The other two Mozambican mobile operators - Vodacom and Movitel - already offer 4G coverage.

Tmcel's network upgrade "includes the equipment, which will contribute to improving quality and coverage as well as increasing speed," says the brand.

Initially, 4G technology will be available only in the cities of Maputo and Matola, as well as in the Marracuene district.
