Brazilian operator Oi has started 5G tests in the state of Rio de Janeiro, using equipment for 4.5G but with more capacity and made specifically for a controlled environment, reports PC World.
The mobile device used was a Huawei Mate 20 X (5G), not for sale in Brazil, and the speed reached 1,029 Mbps. Oi's director of network technologies and platforms, Mauro Fukuda, said that an auction of 5G frequencies (mainly 3.5 GHz) should happen in the first half of 2020, possibly in March, and services could be launched in mid-2021.
