Bite to upgrade 40% of sites with 4G+ by year-end

Bite Latvia is planning to upgrade 40% of it base transceiver stations (BTS) with ‘4G+’ LTE-A technology by the end of the year.

The operator notes that it had 277 sites equipped with the upgrade at the start of the year but increased that figure to 331 by the end of June and is now aiming to add a further 33 by the end of the year, bringing the total to 364 by end-December 2019.

In a statement from the company, Bite engineer Alexander Belayev was quoted as saying: ‘Network infrastructure development is a priority for Bite, so we invest around 10% of our mobile network turnover each year to ensure a positive user experience. This year it is planned to increase capacity by 53%, including upgrading network performance with 4G + technology. In practice, this will mean that our customers will be able to use the much faster and more powerful mobile internet. At the same time, it is a step towards the introduction of 5G technology, which is one of the main goals of our network development in the near future.’
