Fiber optic cables a key technology for the Kuwait's upcoming projects

Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Minister of State for Services Affairs, Khaled Al-Roudhan, said fibre-optic cables were a key technology for the Kuwaiti government’s upcoming projects.

Al-Roudhan was speaking at the launch of a communication centre within the Sabah Al-Ahmad residential district.

At the launch, Al-Roudhan said the centre, staffed with 261 employees, would operate around 30,000 telephone lines using fibre-optic technology that were “completely free of copper”.

According to Kuwaiti state news agency, Kuna, he added that the centre’s use of fibre-optics reflected “the interest of the state in developing the communications and information technology (IT) sectors” in Kuwait.

In January 2019, director-general of Kuwait’s Central Agency for Information Technology, Qusai Al-Shatti, said fibre-optics technology was “vital” for the roll-out of internet of things (IoT).

IoT is a key element of the New Kuwait 2035 vision, the GCC country’s economic diversification mandate to secure its future through sustainable options, such as the development of smart cities.
