Airtel Uganda signs MoU with Mbale Public Library ahead of launch of free WiFi

Mathias Busuulwa, the Airtel Territory Business Manager has on Wednesday 19 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of Airtel Uganda with Mbale Public Library of Uganda to officiate the launch of free WiFi powered by fast and reliable Airtel 4G network.

Airtel Uganda launched an initiative to provide free unlimited WiFi to 19 public libraries across the country.

“Following the launch of 100% Airtel 4G, we embarked on an initiative to provide free unlimited WiFi to 19 public libraries across the country,” announced the Telecommunication giants.

Jinja and Kampala public libraries became the first beneficiaries of this as they received free unlimited WiFi on Tuesday.

“Following the successful launch of free WiFi powered by Airtel 4G in select public libraries in Kampala and Jinja, our team led by Charity Rwabutomize Bukenya, the CSR Manager is at Mbale Public Library to spread the Airtel 4G experience,” said Airtel.

“Today [Tuesday] we are at the Jinja Public Library to provide free unlimited WiFi to enhance the culture of learning and reading using the internet,” said Airtel Uganda.

“I thank Airtel Uganda for this initiative. With reliable and affordable access to internet, service delivery, especially in education, will be enhanced to the benefit of the community and nation,” he said.

Early this year, the telecom network announced the availability of nationwide 4G connectivity following the complete modernisation of its network.

The technology is expected to significantly enhance the network experience for Airtel’s smartphone customers.

It will also allow Airtel users to experience improved 4G availability inside buildings – homes, offices, and malls, along with wider availability of Airtel 4G across Uganda.

Uganda Communications Commission Executive (UCC) Director Godfrey Mutabazi lauded Airtel Uganda for moving ahead of the National Broadband Policy guideline requirement on broadband coverage. He said that this is a crucial milestone because compliance sits at the core of our operations

“4G technology is reliable and will improve our communication; we can expect better service delivery, improvements in public accountability through e-Government, improved education, tourism, and innovative goods and services,” he said.

Airtel now has 1,632 sites and over 3,900 kilometers of fibre across Uganda, covering 95.9 percent of the population, making it possible for subscribers all over the country to get better internet services.
