Argentina’s Netnius has pledged to bring a satellite-based broadband service to all parts of the country after reaching a deal with Hughes Network Systems (Hughes), an EchoStar company. In a statement, Netnius said it’s investing around USD 6 million to deploy its service from Puna in the north to the southernmost parts of Patagonia, above all targeting oil and gas, agriculture and mining industries present in areas unserved or underserved by terrestrial providers. Hughes will provide access to its Jupiter satellite network with over 1.3 million residential and business customers across North and South America.
Netnius has its own teleport in Buenos Aires that reaches over 99.7 percent of the Argentine population and is also partnering with local technology company Megatrans to launch the satellite broadband service.
