Telkom upgrades 3G, 4G networks in major cities

Telkom Kenya has announced the upgrade of its 3G and 4G networks in the cities of Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret, Mombasa and Kisumu, in order to expand coverage and improve service quality.

The operator has invested around KES9 billion (USD87.7 million) since embarking on a network modernisation and infrastructure expansion programme in late 2016.

The campaign has seen 4G services launched in more than 30 towns and cities, as well as the optimisation of the 3G network to improve existing outdoor and indoor coverage, as well as capacity. Telkom is 60%-owned by Helios Investment Partners, with the remaining stake owned by the Kenyan government.
