VNPT-Vinaphone 3G, 4G base station total reaches 60,000

VNPT-Vinaphone, a subsidiary of state-owned national PTO Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has increased its total number of 3G and 4G base stations to 60,000, after completing the deployment of 30,000 LTE base stations nationwide. Including 2G base stations, VNPT-Vinaphone’s overall total reaches 76,000. At the same time, the company announced that it has signed cooperation agreements with two international vendors – one of which has been named as Nokia – to prepare its networks for the deployment of 5G.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) awarded an 1800MHz 4G licence to VNPT-Vinaphone in October 2016 and the firm became the country’s first LTEservice provider the following month with the launch of the network on Phu Quoc Island, in Kien Giang province.
