Vodafone Italia is launching trial commercial fibre-optic offers using the Open Fiber wholesale in four so-called 'white' digital divide areas throughout the country. Under the pilot Vodafone ADSL customers in Fino Mornasco (Como), Campagnano di Roma (Rome), Arguillara Sabazia (Rome) and San Giovanni La Punta (Catania) will be allowed to access Open Fiber’s 1Gbps fibre network for free for a few months. Anguillara Sabazia and San Giovanni La Punta were in fact the first two digital divide localities in the country to receive Open Fiber’s services last December, with the company also launching tests in Fino Mornasco and Campagnano di Roma.
Open Fiber has won three national broadband auctions covering all 20 Italian regions and a total of 7,635 digital divide localities since 2017. It plans to begin construction in 2,000 digital divide localities this year and complete the work in around 850 of them.
