Italian ISP Fastweb says it has carried out a successful demonstration of 500Gbps single-wavelength service connectivity on its live network using technology supplied by Infinera. The live trial was conducted on Fastweb’s 180km fibre backbone link between Milan and Turin. The demonstration was implemented over Fastweb’s existing optical infrastructure without special amplifiers, tuning or changes, Infinera said.
Andrea Lasagna, Chief Technology Officer at Fastweb, commented: ‘As the market for high-performance long-haul transport continues to grow at an accelerated pace, a scalable and simple network approach is required to satisfy the growing demand for bandwidth.’
