Russian paid OTT growth continues

The Russian OTT service Okko saw its turnover increase by 81%, or more than that achieved by the market leader ivi, in 2018.

At the same time, reports Kommersant>, both services saw their market shares increase despite the launch of several new competitors in the last two years.

It adds that Okko’s turnover in 2018 amounted to R2.5 billion (€34.2 million), including VAT, while its monthly audience grew from 1.5 million to 1.83 million during the year.

Okko business is based solely on the paid model. Meanwhile, ivi’s revenues grew by 62% to R3.9 billion in 2018, with the paid model accounting for 70% of the total. Its average monthly audience grew in 2018 by 22% to 43 million unique users.

Revenues from subscriptions are growing at a much faster rate than for advertising in Russia’s OTT sector.
