Morocco adopts new telecom law

A new telecom law has come into force in Morocco bringing a number of changes to the sector, in areas including consumer protection, broadband deployment, and strengthened authority for national regulator ANRT.

The final version of the legislation received parliamentary approval after being reviewed for over one-and-a-half years.

Commenting on the main improvements for consumers, the ANRT said that the new law will affect how contractual information must be provided to end-users. The country's universal service plan has been updated to support the deployment of broadband services and connectivity for newly built housing. On the regulatory front, the regulator will have more powers in monitoring infrastructure sharing and roaming agreements between operators.
