Russian mobile operator Megafon has upgraded its network in the Krasnaya-Polyana alpine ski resort outside Sochi. Two base stations have been deployed there. The first base station has been built in the settlement of Esto-Sadok, helping improve indoor connections in local hotels.The second base station, supporting GSM, 3G and LTE services, has improved the coverage in the ski area at 1,660 metres above sea level.
Megafon also announced that it expanded its services significantly in North-West Russia in 2018. VoLTE, NB-IoT and LITRA services were launched there. VoLTE services were launched in St Petersburg and Kaliningrad, NB-IoT (Narrow Band Internet of Things) services became available in St Petersburg, Pskov and Novgorod, and LITRA service (trunking connection on the LTE network) was launched in St Petersburg.
