Vodafone Germany announced it turned on the first antenna in Bavaria using a mast reserved for public authorities. The new station will provide more than 5,000 residents in the two districts of Dingolfing-Landau and Rottal-Inn with LTE services. The operator invested around EUR 100,000 to deploy the mobile station.
The state of Bavaria agreed in September to allow mobile operators to use masts reserved for state authorities to help close the mobile coverage gap especially in rural areas. The antenna masts are primarily designed for use by state security authorities and organizations (BOS) including the police, fire safety and rescue services.
Vodafone said its LTE network covers 93 percent of the population in Bavaria and its mobile phone service is available to 99.6 percent of the population. It plans 390 LTE construction projects in the region from 2019
