British Fibre Networks sign up 24000 UK homes for FTTH

New operator British Fibre Networks, which aspires to create an open access and 1Gbps capable Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network to serve over 35% of UK new build homes by 2020, has announced that they’ve so far signed up 24,000 new homes via 50 housing developers.

The operator began its first deployment at an apartment block in North Wales for LW Group back in August 2018 (here) and at that time they’d managed to sign up 2,000 homes for a future roll-out. The next batch of locations to benefit will be in the North West of England (e.g. Cheshire and Liverpool), although no site names were revealed and we don’t know how many premises have already been completed.

Elsewhere BFN said they’d appointed “fibre expert” Jim McBride to be their Technical and Process Director. Jim will be responsible for ensuring that all BFN equipment is above specifications, and will reach connectivity on relevant networks. He also previously worked with BFN CEO Elfed Thomas at the defunct i3 Group.

Also joining the BFN team is new Commercial Director Liam Doorey, a consumer electronics specialist with over 20 years of experience in branding, product development, marketing and sales. He was previously Head of Product Marketing at Philex Electronic Ltd.
