VivaCell-MTS kicks off network refurbishment and modernisation

Mobile operator MTS Armenia (VivaCell-MTS) has announced the start of a major programme of refurbishment and modernisation of its mobile networks which it says will ultimately improve quality of service (QoS) levels for its subscribers.

Whilst specifics have not been published, PanARMENIAN.Net reports that VivaCell-MTS’s network modernisation will be implemented via a step-by-step programme of works designed to minimise inconvenience to users. TeleGeography notes that the cellco’s 2G networks incorporate GSM-900/1800 technology that includes voice and data (GPRS, EDGE) services ensuring speed of up to 474kbps. Meanwhile, its W-CDMA 3G technology utilises UMTS-2100 spectrum and also includes DC-HSPA+ (peak throughput 42.2 Mbps), and its 4G system comprises LTE FDD operating at 2600MHz, that it claims can deliver speeds of up to 150Mbps/50Mbps (download/upload).
