Well known companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Oracle and SAP are expected to consider Oman for hosting as the country’s largest data centre opens in Jabel Akhdar.
This comes data centre hosting services company Datamount has announced the launch of Oman’s largest commercial data centre at Jabel Akhdar which will generate nearly 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The launch took place at Kempinski Hotel, held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan.
A cost-efficient, data centre facility with a total floor area of around 9,000 square metres, the centre will accommodate around 1,000 racks, making it the Sultanate’s largest scale- data centre.
Designed by technology partners NxtGen Data Centre and Cloud Technologies, one of the well-known data centre service providers, Datamount’s facility is being established to provide leading data centre services to government entities, corporates and various business enterprises, locally and internationally. The company aims to support and help clients achieve their commercial goals and service objectives through the facility.
On the occasion of the launch, Datamount signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence Pension Fund for leasing its land at Jebel Akdhar with a total area of around 28,000 square metres.
The company has signed a partnership with Awasras, a strategic Telecom Services provider.
Datamount also signed a partnership with Pulse Information Technologies (Rittal solution provider) for building a mini data centre of 20 racks.
Partnerships were also signed with Innovative Systems Middle East for providing a cloud based document management system and support service for Avaya, and with Industrial Management Technology & Contracting (IMTAC) for promoting Datamount collaborative services and IoT technology in the market.
“Corporates require to focus on their core businesses. The need for cloud services, ICT outsourcing, disaster recovery and other secure ICT-related services has been growing rapidly within the country, due to the increasing digital transformation of transactions and customer services," Dr Tahir Al Kindi, Chairman of the company, said.
“Datamount has hence been launched to provide reliable, supportive and scalable data centre services, including cloud services in the form of private, public or hyper mode,” he added.
“Jebel Akdhar is an ideal and secure location for a disaster recovery site. At Datamount, it is our mission is to be beyond just a regular data centre services provider. We are here to make a real and tangible difference by setting a new service standard in quality and integrity, as well as scale, locally and internationally,” Al Kindi said.

Datamount will help in the reduction of capital expenditure and also in optimising Opex due to higher utilisation and a clear ROI for those availing of its services.
The company’s investment in this state-of-the-art data centre will result in around 15 per cent of Datamount’s projects being awarded to SMEs. Datamount will also support IT initiatives such as Smart city, IoT, Blockchain, and the setting up of training and innovation centres.
As of today, the company’s Cloud Computing Services are ready for the market. Datamount is expected to go live with the mini data centre, with a capacity of 20 racks, in the second quarter of 2019. Subsequently, Datamount’s full setup will be completed and is expected to go live by the fourth quarter of 2020, with a capacity of 1,000 racks.
