KT has launched a blazing-fast 10Gbps internet service in major cities across South Korea.
The operator's new 10 Giga internet service has launched in cities including Seoul, Daegu and Busan, the Korea Times reported.
KT plans to gradually roll out the fiber broadband service nationwide, marking the next upgrade to its 1Gpbs Giga internet service.
Since launching in 2014, KT has signed up around 4.8 million subscribers to its Giga internet service, representing about 55% of the company's total fixed line customer base, the report states.
KT is offering 10Gbps services for 110,000 won ($97) per month, and 5Gbps services for 82,500 won.
The operator said it has developed the service in response to customer demand. The service is expected to allow subscribers to take advantage of superior augmented and virtual reality content and to foster the emergence of new IoT and cloud computing based services requiring fast data transfer.
The 10Gbps internet service will also serve as the backbone for offering stable 5G services, the report adds.
