An agreement was signed with a Chinese company to implement a digital connectivity project aiming to deliver high speed broadband internet across the country including remote areas.
The agreement was signed between Director General of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department AKM Khairul Alam and China Railway International’s (CRIG) representative to Bangladesh Wei Xiaojun at ICT department.
The Tk 8000 crore project will begin in 2019 and conclude in 2021.
After implementing the project a total of 35,500 Sheikh Russel Digital Laboratories will be established in educational institutes across the country.
Besides, high tech laboratories will be established at 54 public universities of the country.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) Minister Mustafa Jabbar, ICT department secretary Juena Aziz, CRIG president Chen Xiping and vice president Wang Lijie were present during the programme.
