Vodafone Germany has announced the launch of its gigabit cable broadband service in the federal state of Saxony. Around 280,000 households in the city of Leipzig are now able to access maximum download speeds of 1Gbps. By the end of the year, the high-speed network will reach roughly 500,000 homes in Saxony and a total of six million across Vodafone’s cable footprint, with this set to reach eleven million households by the end of 2019. Ultimately, the firm is aiming to upgrade its entire cable network – passing 12.7 million homes in 13 states – to enable top speeds of 1Gbps by the end of 2020.
