In a recent press release, Digicel’s subsidiary in Saint Lucia has confirmed that it is close to completing a major mobile network upgrade to deliver LTE services to residents and businesses island-wide.
The unit’s chief executive officer Siobhan James-Alexander said the development marked the ‘culmination of the multi-million-dollar investment programme’ to improve users’ mobile data experience. ‘Digicel will announce full details soon of the new LTE service and the steps they are taking to ensure the maximum number of people can benefit from the advantages in an affordable, simple way,’ she said, adding: ‘An island-wide LTE network will be a first for Saint Lucia and will deliver great benefits and lifestyle changes to all Digicel customers. Once we switch the LTEnetwork on, the only thing our customers will need to enjoy the benefits are a compatible SIM card, phone, LTEphone settings on and a data plan.’ Further, Ms James-Alexander noted that in the final phase of network deployment and testing, some customers may experience short periods of disruption to existing services.
