Vodafone Malta to share rival’s FTTH networks

Vodafone Malta has agreed a deal with the island’s incumbent fixed line operator GO to share its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure.

The local regulator, the Malta Communications Authority (MCA), labelled it ‘a pioneering move’ which will improve quality of service (QoS) and help to lower end-user prices. The Times of Malta reports that the technical details of the agreement are to be finalised over the next six months. Cellular operator Vodafone will be looking to bundle fixed internet and pay-TV services with its existing wireless portfolio, while it is hoped that the deal will enable GO to expand its FTTH footprint at a faster rate. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, GO had 17,689 fibre customers at the end of June 2018.
