Digicel Samoa network upgrade pushes 4G coverage to 90% of population

Digicel Samoa, part of the Caribbean-focused Digicel Group, has completed its network upgrade and now covers 90% of the population with its 4G LTE network. Launched in July 2016, Digicel’s advanced network, which uses frequencies in the 700MHz band, had an estimated coverage of >70% earlier this year, with a focus on Tuasivi, Salelologa, Vaiola, Fa’a’ala, and Upolu (Apia, A’Ana, Mulifanua, and Opulu). In a statement outlining the milestone, Digicel notes that the cellco’s migration of users to 4G Plus connectivity is ongoing, and that customers who want to upgrade their service should visit one of its registered retail outlets.

‘Digicel Samoa now provides world class 4G+ speeds to its customers and is leading the way with providing better value and innovative products,’ said Digicel Samoa CEO Farid Mohammed. ‘We are fully committed to the government’s vision of a connected Samoa and we have invested considerably to bring the best service possible to market. We are also offering great value phones and data plans and 4G+ products to make the most of this upgraded network,’ he added.
