As it continues its global expansion plan, which will see it launch in the UK November, Viacom18’s VOOT Cloud TV service has revealed it is to use Kaltura technology to support its ambitious growth plans.
The ad-funded service, targeted at more than 37 million monthly users, will offer over 50,000 hours of original, domestic and international content for free. Content includes: COLORS TV, MTV India, Nickelodeon India, a range of Bollywood films and VOOT Original shows. In 2018, VOOT plans to expand its audience base across six regional languages and international markets dedicated to Indian content fans worldwide. It will also launch its premium offering including exclusive original content as well as international series and movies.
The Kaltura TV Platform will see use in aiding the service’s technical ability to boost engagement and interactivity. This includes split-screen delivery, tailored experiences for kids through VOOT kids, and progressive web apps (PWA) including offline support. These are intended to allow an app-like experience within mobile browsers available on a wide range of Android devices.
“VOOT is truly a phenomenon – the speed at which it is being adopted and continues to grow definitely validates our Cloud TV strategy,” commented Mohit Srivastava, head of product and engineering Viacom18 Digital Ventures. “Kaltura’s technology and expertise help us stay ahead of the curve with innovative features and enhancements while continuously optimising performance and usability. We look forward to pioneering the next generation of Cloud TV together.”
