Bouygues to bring FTTH offers on public initiative network run by Orange in Brittany

Bouygues Telecom will soon commercialise its FTTH broadband offers on the public-initiative network, known as RIP (‘Reseaux d'Initiative Publique’), managed by Orange Wholesale in Brittany. This will be the first RIP run by Orange to see the arrival of Bouygues’s fibre bundles. The agreement is part of a wider national partnership signed by the two operators and supports Bouygues’ objective to expand its presence across the entire French RIP market.

The open-access network project, named Megalis Bretagne, aims to bring fibre connectivity to 1.2 million homes, businesses and public buildings in under-served areas. The first phase of the ongoing fibre deployment started in 2015 and will end in 2019, with two more phases planned over the coming years.

Orange Wholesale created local subsidiary THD Bretagne after securing the contract to run the network. Since then, Orange’s retail division has made available its FTTH broadband offers to the premises already covered by Megalis Bretagne’s infrastructure.
