Mobile phone imports in Pakistan have witnessed a whopping surge of 19.28% during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2017-18 from July to May. The total imports stood at $759.969 million.
Pakistan is a growing market for mobile phones, a country with a population of around 194 million is heaven for Chinese smartphones. Mobile phone imports are on the rise since the introduction of 4G smartphones.
During the period of first 11 months of previous fiscal year July-May 2016-17 the imports stood at $637.14 million. Along in May 2018 the mobile phone imports valued at $81.362 million which shows 25.64 percent increase as compared to the previous corresponding period of May 2017.
Month on month basis the imports were increased by 7.72 percent as compared to the previous month April 2018, total imports stood at $75.53 in April 2018.
The data acquired from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) indicates that entire telecom industry imports witnessed an increase of 11.77% during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2017-18 as compared to the previous corresponding period.
Total telecom industry imports stood at $1.396 billion during the first eleven months as compared to $1.249 billion as compared to the previous 11 months from July-May 2016-17. However, telecom imports stood at $129.835 million in May 2018 and witnessed 10.39% growth as compared to May 2017 which registered $117.613 million worth of total imports.
The imports of telecom equipment also increased by 3.95% during the first 11 months, recorded at $636.057 million against $611.872 million during the corresponding period last month.
