Digicel Anguilla launches LTE network

Irish-owned, pan-Caribbean telecoms group Digicel has activated Anguilla’s first commercial LTE network, having invested XCD8.1 million (USD3 million) in the rollout.

The Angullian cites Senior Digicel official Roxanne Webster as saying that the network development plans first announced by the cellco in 2017 had become more urgent following the devastation of Hurricane Irma, which struck the island in September 2017.

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Curtis Richardson was quoted as saying at the network’s public launch ceremony in late April: ‘Seven months ago, Anguilla’s landscape changed with the passage of Hurricane Irma. Today I stand with you, excited about the opportunities that have been unlocked for the people of Anguilla through the intervention of Digicel’s 4G LTE … Building back better is a commitment that we all have made for our cherished island. Digicel has proven to be united with us in this cause, in their own way: they have promised and delivered to us an amazing network experience.’
