Brazilian 4G network reaches more than 4,000 municipalities in April

The coverage of 4G mobile networks has reached 4,004 municipalities in Brazil, according to data released by the Brazilian Telecommunications Association (Telebrasil), which brings together mobile operators. It said 2.1 million new LTE SIM cards were activated in April, taking the total to 112.4 million. In the twelve months from April 2017 to April 2018, 38 million new connections were activated, an increase of 52 percent over the period.

Despite 4G's advance, 3G coverage remains the most widespread in Brazil. According to Telebrasil, 3G networks reach 5,266 boroughs, home to 99.2 percent of the Brazilian population. Since April 2017, 250 new municipalities have gained 3G networks. In all, the number of 3G lines is 75 million. In total, Brazil has 206.4 million internet connections through the mobile network. Taking fixed and mobile connections together, the April data show a total of 236.3 million lines in the country. Of these, 29.9 million are in fixed broadband, a segment that grew 9.6 percent in twelve months, with 2.6 million new lines.
