Telia partners with Ericsson, KTH Royal Institute on 5G testing facility

In an effort to move its 5G deployments forward, Telia announced it has joined forces with Ericsson and the KTH Royal Institute on a test facility.

With Ericsson as the technology partner, Telia will build an "innovation arena" at KTH Royal Institute of Technology's campus in Stockholm that will test and develop 5G networks. Telia said it would also work with other industry partners to create the innovation arena.

“The 5G environment we will establish at KTH campus means great opportunities to test technology and applications,” said Mats Lundbäck, CTO, Telia Sweden, in a prepared statement. “Telia will contribute with technical, cutting-edge competence and solutions to ensure that Swedish academia and industry are in the driver’s seat and are able to take leadership in 5G use case development.”

Telia said the idea behind the partnership with Ericsson and KTH was that the expansion of 5G networks would be the backbone for the digitalization of society in Sweden. With its increased bandwidth capacity and low latency, 5G is expected to play a key role across various Internet of Things verticals as well as enabling autonomous cars.

In September, Telia announced a partnership with Ericsson and Intel that was designed to foster live 5G use cases in Europe.
