UnionPay International is expanding the acceptance scope of the UnionPay app to 25 countries and regions outside mainland China, according to a press release.
With the app, users can pay with a UnionPay QR code or activate the contactless payment function of their NFC-enabled mobile phones. Some merchants will provide discounts for the UnionPay app users for the May Day Holiday.
UnionPay cited Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand as countries that now accept the UnionPay app. The card network said in the release it is working to improve the app's features and functionality, and to expand acceptance beyond the 25 countries and regions.
