Ride-hailing service Uber plans to operate across 50% of Egyptian governorates by the end of this year.
The US-based company will begin expansion in Zagazig and Hurghada in the governorates of El Sharkia and the Red Sea, Uber's chief operating officer Barney Harford said.
Egypt is one of Uber’s fastest-growing markets in the world, Harford added in a press release during his visit to the North African nation.
The American ride-hailing app is one of the biggest platforms providing job opportunities in Egypt, he highlighted, pointing out that it also provides safer commuting services.
For his part, general manager of Uber Egypt Abdellatif Waked said that the company is working on enabling drivers to boost their wages through using developed technologies.
The local market is constantly studied and the app will be launched in 7 different cities now, Waked remarked, noting that Uber plans further expansion in Egypt, the Arab world's most populous country, soon.
In 2017, Uber has provided around 150,000 jobs, and almost 40% of drivers were unemployed, the press said.
By launching the services of Uber in Zagazig and Hurghada, the company now operates in Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhur, Hurghada, Mansoura, Tanta, and Zagazig.
