Celcom launches home wireless broadband

Celcom Axiata Bhd has launched Celcom Home Wireless, a broadband service powered by its 4G network with data inclusions of one terabyte (TB) Internet.

The plug-and-play modem with average speeds of 30Mbps is available at selected key areas in 14 states and 107 districts nationwide.

Celcom deputy CEO of business operation Azwan Khan Osman Khan said the group will focus on meeting consumer needs through affordable plans with plenty of data.

“This is our biggest data inclusion ever offered on our 4G network with the best value for fast Internet, designed for residential home, as well as small and medium enterprises.

“We are optimistic and quite confident as trials have shown typical speeds of 30Mbps-40Mbps in selected locations,” Azwan Khan said at the sideline of the launching ceremony.

“Since the soft launch last month, we already have 800 subscribers through words of mouth,” he added.

Celcom head of marketing Daren Victor said the venture into high-speed home connectivity is to provide a home-Internet solution, as 70% of Malaysian homes have yet to have access to fast home Internet due to the absence of fibre coverage or fibre ports.

“Consumers can stream movies with up to 1TB of Video Walla, listen to music via Music Walla or browse the Internet, all in their home,” Victor said.

The company offers three 24-month contract plans; the Platinum 150GB + 40GB, Gold Plus 50GB + 100GB and Gold 25GB + 150GB, which are priced at RM159, RM106 and RM74.20 inclusive of the Goods and Services Tax respectively.

Celcom product management A’an Sriyani said the device is one of the top range and powerful modems in the market now.

“The home wireless plans come with a Huawei B618 modem, which connects up to 64 devices, no wall hacking and hassle-free installation.

“We offer 1TB usage with no upfront payment, zero modem fee and a 30 days return policy,” said Sriyani.

Meanwhile, the product will also be available during the HomeDec exhibition at KLCC Convention Centre from April 26-29.

HomeDec visitors who register will get a chance to win a-year-free subscription, while existing Celcom consumers are entitled a RM15 rebate for 24 months.
