Algerian retailer Condor to launch smartphone in France

Algerian retail group Condor Electronics will enter the French smartphone market in June with the launch of the Allure M3, an own-brand handset priced at EUR 299 and featuring a borderless 6.2-inch full HD screen. Condor executive Abderrahmane Benhamadi told Les Echos that the group has set very ambitious targets for its French market entry. Next year, it aims to sell 2 million smartphones offering affordable models, including a low-cost handset priced in the region of EUR 60.

The brand will compete with the likes of Wiko, which has reportedly an 18 percent share of smartphone sales in France, and handset manufacture Echo, with a 3 percent share.

After France, Condor is targeting other European markets, including Spain, Italy, Benelux and Portugal. These expansion plans support the ambition to grow exponentially its international revenues, with the goal to achieve half of group sales by 2022 from 1.3 percent currently. The group launched its first own-brand smartphone in 2013 and claims to have recently replaced Samsung as market leader in Algeria.
