The Board of Directors of Russian mobile operator MegaFon has approved the acquisition of 100% of Neosprint, which owns spectrum in the 3.4GHz-3.6GHz band for Moscow.
In a company press release, MegaFon says it believes that the 3.4GHz-3.6GHz band will be the most likely used for the early deployment of 5G networks. The firm says it plans to use the spectrum in June to deploy a pilot 5G network in Moscow stadiums hosting the FIFAWorld Cup. MegaFon expects to complete the transaction by the end of April, and will provide additional information related to the acquisition, including the purchase price, upon its completion.
